Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Who needs Comet or a soft scrub when you can sprinkle baking soda in your toilet bowl? Sprinkle inside your toilet bowl like you would any other cleaner. After I scrub the toilet I like to leave it soaking for about an hour or till some one uses the toilet.
Odor Remover
Keep a small open box or a bowl of baking soda in your fridge to absorb the odor. You can also sprinkle a little in the bottom of your trash can to cut down on the smell.
Scouring
When you have food burned on the bottom of a pot sprinkle in a little baking soda and cover with hot water. Let set for an hour or so, the burned food will have loosened and be much easier to clean out.
Laundry
Add 1/2 of a cup of baking soda to your wash to freshening your cloths and keep the colors bright. This allows you to use up to 1/2 the amount of detergent.
Drain Cleaner
Pour 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/2 a cup of white vinegar and a cup of hot water to clean your clogged drains.
Diapers
Sprinkle baking soda on each cloth diaper as you add it to the pail. It will reduce to odor and add a cleaning boost when you wash them.
Soft Scrub
Mix 3 parts baking soda with 1 part water to make a paste to scrub a stubborn stain in your bathroom or kitchen.
What are some ways you like to use baking soda?

I clean my oven with a paste of baking soda and white vinegar and it works amazing! Thanks a lot for the incredible article here! Incredible ideas! Creel Log Carpet Cleaners Ltd.
on the soft scrub recipe it says 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water what exactly does that mean. how would i mix it. i am new at this, trying to start making my own homemade household cleaners. please respond i would greatly appreciate it.
Hi Crystal, for example you could mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of water in a samll bowl using a fork to stir it up. Or you could mix 3 cups of baking soda with 1 cup of water. I wouldn’t really suggest that though unless you have a massive cleaning project! 😉 I hope that helps!
I am wondering if these cleaners can be made up ahead of time and put in spraying containers just like you’d buy so they are conveniently ready to use and you only have to make them 1 or 2 times a year? Or do they need to be made up fresh to work correctly? Thanks!
I would not advise it, since baking soda and vinegar foam up and water with baking soda would dry out. The others are just baking soda so they are ready to use!
Thank you for your print reply! Also, I’ve found many recipes with essential oils for cleaning…are those the therouputic oils or the auromatic (hope those are the correct words)?

There are all sorts of names thrown around when it comes to essential oils. 🙂 I personaly use (and sell) doTERRA essential oils. There are other good brands as well such as Young Living and Mountian Rose Herbs. High quality oils are the safest and most effective. Another brand I have used to clean with before is Now. I hope that helps!
FYI… The correct spelling for ” Oder Remover ” is ” Odor Remover. ”
Thanks for the helpful tips.

You’re right, thank’s for pointing that out.
I think you made a mistake in the first couple posts and put baking powder instead of baking soda.
Thank you for pointing that out! I’m changing it right now.
