Sweet and creamy with just the perfect balance of spices, this healthy pumpkin spice latte made with real pumpkin is just waiting to warm you on a crisp autumn day.

‘Tis the season for all things pumpkin—namely, the Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Fall is that time of year that makes me want to curl up and enjoy all things hygge; this latte is one of them. Summer tends to stick around my area longer than I want, but we are finally being treated to a few cooler days.

Despite it being a tad overused, I completely agree with my fellow INFP Anne Shirley when she said that she was so glad that she lived in a world where there were Octobers. However, in my areas, it is more like living in a world where there are Novembers. My fall might not be full of all the vibrant orange and red leaves just yet, but autumn is still a time to celebrate.

Healthy Pumpkin Spice Latte, Hygge in a Cup

Cool mornings and blustery days are enough for me to want to sip a from-scratch healthy pumpkin spice latte or a pumpkin spice hot cocoa and get lost in a book.  Those are the cozy days that hygge was made for.

Everyone and their mother seem to lose their minds for this autumnal treat as the weather cools down. Why wait in line when you can make a simple version at home with ingredients you probably already have in your pantry?
Looking for a way to warm up in the cool fall weather? Then this latte is for you!

It is so simple and delicious and good for you, too. The beauty of making a healthy pumpkin spice latte from scratch is that you are in charge of what goes into your cup. Sugar-free? No problem. Dairy-free? It’s covered. No artificial ingredients? Yep, that too.

From-Scratch Healthy Pumpkin Spice Latte: Better than the Coffee Shop

This latte takes only minutes to make; you don’t even have to leave the house! It is a perfect drink all by itself or with a fluffy sourdough pumpkin cinnamon roll. If you have a few minutes, treat yourself to this seasonal latte and a good book!

There are a few reasons to wrap your hands around a latte you made at home…

  • The perfect touch of fall
  • Full of real food ingredients
  • Hygge in a mug
  • No need to leave the house
  • It saves a pretty penny
  • Simply delicious!

Yield 2 servings

Sweet and creamy with just the perfect balance of spices, this healthy pumpkin spice latte made with real pumpkin is just waiting to warm you on a crisp autumn day.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups raw milk, or milk of choice
  • 1/2 cup espresso or strong coffee
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (freshly grated is best)
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • pinch of unrefined salt

Instructions

  • Heat the milk in a saucepot over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally. If you are using raw milk you want to keep the temperature no higher than 110 F. Otherwise the health benefits will be depleted.
  • In a small bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt.
  • Once the milk had warm whisk in the pumpkin mixture. Whisk until smooth.
  • Pour into two mugs and top with whipped cream and caramel sauce if desired.

Courses Beverages

(Original Recipe from November 2011)

Pumpkin Pie Latte
serves 2
3 cups raw milk
1/2 cup espresso or strong coffee
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
4 TBS Maple Syrup
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice

Blend all the ingredients together. Pour into a small saucepan and warm over low heat, stirring constantly. Be sure not to let the latte’s temperature rise above 110 degrees F. Otherwise, the good bacteria in the raw milk will be destroyed. I’m sure this would be delightful with coconut milk as well.

Yum yum yum! I’ll be making this in the morning for a friend I’m working in the nursery with at church. She LOVES pumpkin spice lattes but is definitely wary of all the chemicals. 🙂

Your Pumpkin Pie Latte sounds fabulous, and I like how nutritious it is with the actual pumpkin in it. The spices you have used sound delicious too. This is a perfect healthy autumn drink!

I just made this latte on a chilly Colorado afternoon…OMG, it is FABULOUS! I did double the coffee cause I was afraid it wouldn’t taste much like coffee with only 1/4 cup, and I did increase the pumpkin by a tablespoon. It is smooth, creamy and delish! It didn’t look anything like the picture though (not foamy), cause the spices floated around sticking together, but the taste totally made up for it! This will become a regular in our home!
