Every year on May first one of my older girls, Marvella and I wake up yearly and leave a bouquets of flowers on the door steps of all our female staff houses. The tradition comes from the old English May Day festivals. People, generally children would give baskets of flowers to women. Latter on the the tradition evolved to leaving baskets of flowers on the door steps of friends houses. Almost every year growing up my friend Laura and her mother would leave a basket of flowers for my mom because the first of May is her birthday. Leaving flowers on May Day is a wonderful way to bless your friends and elderly neighbors. A perfect way to brighten their day! Marvella and I love to keep the ladies here guessing who the flowers are from!
